A Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics Colorado athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into the frigid waters of a Colorado lake. All proceeds collected by plungers benefit the more than 11,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state of Colorado. In three years, plunges have raised nearly $300,000 for Special Olympics Colorado. Participants must raise (or pay) $85 from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters in the middle of winter ($50 for students and Special Olympics athletes). Each plunger receives a long-sleeve Polar Plunge T-shirt plus the chance to win additional prizes for raising additional funds. Plungers can plunge alone or join a group of friends and/or work colleagues. Both individual plungers and/or groups of plungers are welcome. Anyone with a little guts and a warm heart wanting to support Special Olympics Colorado athletes is encouraged to participate. Too Chicken to Plunge? No problem. You can still be a part of the fun! Simply register as a chicken, raise pledges and receive incentives just like a regular plunger except no going into the icy water. It’s a fun way to still be a part of a team while still doing something crazy. Anyone can plunge - young and old. Only registered plungers will be allowed in the water. No one of any age is allowed to be carried into the water. A parent or guardian must sign the waiver form if a plunger is under age 18. Attire: Anything but a wetsuit. Shoes are recommended; costumes are encouraged. Remember to bring a towel to dry off! For tips on raising money and receiving matching funds from your employer, click here. 2012 Polar Plunge Season
