Event Fundraising

Thank you for your interest in supporting Special Olympics Colorado (SOCO) through a fundraising event, promotion, or community initiative. We are truly grateful for the generosity, creativity, and passion of the individuals, businesses, and organizations that help advance our mission and create more opportunities for athletes across Colorado.

To ensure fundraising activities align with our mission and legal requirements, we ask that all third-party fundraising efforts be reviewed and approved by SOCO in advance.

A third-party fundraising event is any fundraiser organized and conducted by an individual, business, school, or community group that is not directly affiliated with Special Olympics Colorado. While these events benefit our organization, they are planned and managed independently, with limited or no staff involvement and no fiduciary responsibility on the part of SOCO.

What assistance Special Olympics Colorado can provide

Special Olympics Colorado is extremely appreciative of the individuals and organizations who work so hard to support SOCO! While Special Olympics Colorado is limited in the amount of assistance it can provide a third-party event, we are happy to provide:

  • Advice and suggestions on event planning, as time allows.
  • Approval of the use of Special Olympics Colorado logo and athlete photos (prior approval required).
  • An online fundraising tool to solicit support from your online network set the event target and track progress towards your goal.
  • A letter of authorization to be used to validate the authenticity and intention of the event and its organizers.
  • Special Olympics Colorado will acknowledge all contributions made payable and submitted directly to SOCO.
Please note: Tax receipts can only be issued for donations made directly to Special Olympics Colorado, in accordance with IRS regulations. Donations made payable to another individual or organization are not eligible for a charitable tax receipt from SOCO.

What Special Olympics Colorado is UNABLE to provide

While we are grateful for your support, as a nonprofit with limited resources, Special Olympics Colorado is unable to provide:

  • Assistance with soliciting donations, sending mailings, recruiting attendees or sponsors, collecting funds, or serving on event planning committees.
  • Our tax-exempt number for purchases or sales tax exemption related to your event.
  • Guaranteed staff or volunteer attendance at your event.
  • Access to donor, athlete, volunteer, or supporter contact lists.
  • Financial support for event expenses or reimbursement of costs.
  • Insurance, liability coverage, permits, licenses, or responsibility for any aspect of planning, organizing, or operating the event.

We appreciate your partnership and are happy to provide guidance, promotional support when appropriate, and resources to help make your event a success.
