May 2026 Change Makers
Jeff Crawley
Athlete of the Month
Jeff Crawley has been a proud Special Olympics Colorado athlete for 30 years, competing in a wide range of sports. He stays active year‑round, training for track and field, swimming, cycling, triathlon, and Nordic skiing.
Jeffrey’s coach, Brian, has watched him grow and become more confident throughout the year. He mentioned that he had the pleasure of seeing Jeff turn a phobia of water into swimming 500 yards and completing a sprint triathlon solo.
Next month, Jeff is excited to represent Team Colorado in athletics at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota, his first national‑level competition. He will compete in the 5K run, shot put, and the 4×400 relay. Jeffrey is training hard and hopes to do his best while creating lasting memories at USA Games. He is working out three days a week with a mix of running and weight training. His goal, encouraged by Coach Brian, is to bring his 5K time down from 35 minutes to under 30 minutes.
We are so excited to cheer Jeff on at USA Games and are thrilled to recognize him as the May Athlete of the Month!
The Pitman Family
Family of the Month
The Pitman family initially got involved with Special Olympics Colorado in February 2026, when they attended their very first basketball event. What started as a simple Google search for activities their daughter, Harmoni, might enjoy quickly became something much more meaningful. After that first experience, they were hooked. Laura, Harmoni’s mom, said that the joy, the energy, and the sense of belonging made it easy to sign up for more!
Since then, they have participated in basketball, ice skating, and soccer, each event creating memories they treasure. Basketball holds a special place in their hearts thanks to a volunteer named Luca, whose kindness and support made the day unforgettable because of his helpfulness and kindness.
What the Pitmans love most about Special Olympics Colorado is the genuine inclusivity and the thoughtful ways the organization ensures Harmoni can fully participate. Laura said that it’s clear to them that every detail is designed with care.
For their family, Special Olympics Colorado means opportunity. It’s the chance for Harmoni to be part of a team, to grow through sports, and to connect with a community of other special‑needs families. It has become a place where they feel understood and supported.
The Pitmans have been fostering Harmoni since June 2025, and on Friday, May 15, 2026, she officially became a Pitman, a moment that Laura said made their family complete!
We’re excited to recognize the Pitman Family as our May Family of the Month and can’t wait to see them grow in the Special Olympics Colorado community!
