President and Founder

John Shukie is considered a national expert on NCAA policy and assists institutions across the country with navigating complex NCAA processes. John founded Forward Progress in 2013 after serving as Director of Academic and Membership Affairs (AMA) at the NCAA national office, where he oversaw various academic and compliance-related programs. Prior to his time in AMA, John served as an investigator within the NCAA enforcement department.

John received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was an editor for the Legal Forum Journal. He also received his M.S. in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and his Bachelors degree from Bowdoin College. John is actively involved in his community, serving on the Douglas County Special Education Advisory Committee. He lives in Castle Rock with his wife, Maricela and three daughters: Marisol, Sofia and Nadia.
