Wrapping Up the Special Olympics Colorado Basketball Season
As the final whistle blew at Gold Crown Fieldhouse last weekend, the 2025 Special Olympics Colorado basketball season came to a close, leaving behind a season full of incredible sportsmanship, teamwork, and inspiring performances.
The journey began on March 7 at Gold Crown Fieldhouse, where 52 high school and middle school teams battled it out at State School Basketball. With 353 athletes, 182 Unified partners, and 79 dedicated coaches, the energy in the gym was contagious. Players showcased their hard work and determination, leaving it all on the court as they represented their schools with pride.

The State Basketball Tournament on March 22 and 23 brought even more excitement. With 2 days of intense competition, 994 athletes, 216 Unified partners, and 234 coaches filled the courts with passion and camaraderie.
On Saturday the 22nd, 74 Unified teams (both athletes and Unified partners) kicked off the weekend. The spirit of inclusion was evident in every game as teammates worked together, cheered each other on, and showcased their skills.
The competition continued on the 23rd, with 36 Traditional teams, comprising all athletes with intellectual disabilities, battling for victory. Additionally, the skills competition gave 14 teams the opportunity to demonstrate their individual abilities in shooting, dribbling, and passing drills.
Young Athletes also got their chance to shine at “Learn To Basketball,” where 40 Young Athletes participated in drills focused on passing, shooting, agility, and vertical jumps. The closed out the day with an exciting mock game.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication of over 100 volunteers who lent their time and energy to make the event a success. Their efforts, along with the support of coaches and families, played a crucial role in ensuring that every athlete had an unforgettable experience.
As we close the chapter on the 2025 Basketball Season, we celebrate the determination, resilience, and sportsmanship displayed by every participant. Here’s to another fantastic season, and we can’t wait to see what next year has in store!
