Maggie Brown

Athlete of the Month

Maggie has been a Special Olympics Colorado athlete for more than 10 years and stared at a Young Athlete. She intitially got involved through her school district and grew from there. Over the years, Maggie has competed in basketball, softball, bocce, track and field, swimming, golf and her favorite, bowling.

According to Maggie’s mom, Tami, she is very competitive and loves to win. Special Olympics Colorado is the perfect place to foster Maggie’s competitive spirit!

A big moment Tami remember’s in Maggie’s Special Olympics Colorado journey is when Maggie realized she could swim by herself. “She was so proud of herself,” Tami explained.

When she’s not competing, Maggie is a big Power Rangers fan and can be found watching Power Rangers videos.

The Cowgirl Camera

Volunteer of the Month

Melissa Polk, aka The Cowgirl Camera, began volunteering and taking photos for Special Olympics Colorado in March 2019. Since then, she has photographed competitions, fundraisers, and Young Athletes events.

Polk is a member of Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Colorado and Intermountain Professional Photographers. She specializes in portraits; individuals, couples and families, headshots, dog and horse portraits and event photography with a specialization in working with musicians and performers, horse events and rodeos.

Polk originally came to Colorado in 1981 when she was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base for training and came back as soon as she got out of the service. Thank you for your service, Polk!
