Athlete of the Month

Lily began competing with Special Olympics Colorado in 2022 and is now in her third season of cycling with the Durango Pesky Pedalers.

Lily’s favorite part about competing is getting to travel around the state and race against other athletes. Her coach, Scott Beckstead, said that Lily is very competitive and loves the challenge of going up against athletes in a higher division. “She loves winning,” exclaimed Scott.

Since first getting involved, Scott has seen Lily grow in many different ways. “She’s still shy, but she’s become more talkative,” he explained. “She’s also gotten stronger. She looks forward to practices and this year, she is taking the challenge of going out and riding a 25K.”

Lily’s favorite memory was when she won a gold medal in Colorado Springs at last year’s State Summer Classic. “She loves winning,” exclaimed Scott.

Lily comes from a family of cyclists and it’s no doubt it’s a sport she loves. Scott said that she is the type of athlete who won’t give up and when she get’s to the finish line, she puts her head down and gives it all she’s got to finish the race.
