March 2025 Change Makers
Peter Failla
Athlete of the Month
Peter has been a Special Olympics Colorado athlete for 4 years. When he first got involved, he competed in skiing. “While he enjoyed skiing at the time, he didn’t love making turns,” said Liz, Peter’s mother. “Racing made turning fun and ultimately allowed Peter to enjoy the sport in a safer and more exciting way.” In addition to skiing, Peter also plays basketball and flag football and is trying track and field this spring. When asked about his favorite sport, Peter said he couldn’t pick. “I love them all!” he exclaimed.
Peter’s favorite part about competing with Special Olympics Colorado is winning gold medals and cheering on his teammates. He especially enjoyed lighting the cauldron earlier this month at State Winter Games!
When he’s not participating in Special Olympics, Peter loves to work up a sweat dancing and gooing to a Rockies, Nuggets, or Avs game. He is also a proud member of his middle school’s cheer squad (Go Falcons!), and enjoys he shooting hoops with his brother in the alley and playing with monster trucks is always in the mix.
Congratulations, Peter, on being recognized as the March Athlete of the Month!
