Sofia Martinez

Athlete of the Month

Sofia Martinez is a junior at Valley High School and has been part of Special Olympics and Unified sports since middle school. Now in her third year competing at the high‑school level, she competes in bowling, flag football, basketball, and track.

Sofia loves how inclusive Special Olympics is and how kind everyone is. She enjoys meeting new people, especially people she knows she may not have met otherwise. She loves participating in Unified sports at her school as well because they’ve helped her get better at sports and become more confident. “We get to experience different things every year. Nothing’s the same,” explained Sofia. “It’s all fun. And at the end, you just get to learn how to be a good teammate.”

Overall, Sofia encourages others to get involved in Special Olympics and Unified sports at their school. “If you have a chance to, just join Special Olympics and give it your all,” exclaimed Sofia.

Sofia brings so much joy to her school and the Special Olympics community and we’re proud to recognize her as the March Athlete of the Month!

Jersey Mike’s

Community Partner of the Month

Giving back is core to Jersey Mike’s mission, and Special Olympics Colorado has been proud to partner with the sandwich giant for over a decade.

Throughout March, Jersey Mike’s hosted the “Month of Giving,” where customers could make a donation at any Jersey Mike’s restaurant to help athletes attend the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. The Month of Giving campaign culminated with Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 25, where local Jersey Mike’s restaurants gave 100 percent of the day’s sales to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games and Special Olympics Colorado.

Jersey Mike’s hoped to raise enough money to help every qualifying athlete across the country attend the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, with hopes of breaking last year’s record of $30 million raised nationwide during the Month of Giving. Jersey Mike’s partnership helps cover the cost of training, travel, uniforms, and competition expenses so our athletes can compete at their best
