Athlete of the Month

Meadow has been a Special Olympics Colorado athlete for 4 years and currently competes in powerlifting and softball. Through Special Olympics Colorado, Meadow said she has learned new skills.

One of Meadow’s favorite Special Olympics Colorado memories was when she attended a powerlifting competition in Windsor. She said she earned a medal for her kindness, leadership and encouragement and it made her feel really good.

In addition to competing, Meadow is also part of the Youth Activation Committee and enjoys being a youth leader because she feels more connected to other people.

This past June, Meadow had the opportunity to attend USA Games as part of the Youth Leadership Experience. As part of the YLE, Meadow and her Unified partner, Chloe, attended leadership lessons and shadowed hosts ranging from Special Olympics staff, support coaches, media and fundraising, partners and more. They also spent time volunteering at USA Games, helped with various sports and interviewed people to gain perspectives on what makes each individual’s story so unique.

Community Partner of the Month

A special shout-out to our community partner of the month, Canvas Credit Union! This year, Canvas has been an avid partner and supporter. In addition to making so many amazing opportunities possible through their financial support, they are also helping us spread the message of inclusion through our “I Am An Athlete” video series. Throughout the year, Canvas has supported State Summer Games in Grand Junction as our Soccer Venue Sponsor, cheered on athletes as Western Region Presenting Sponsor, gave athletes a platform to share their stories through “I Am An Athlete,” supported and participated in both our annual Golf Tournament and Hall of Fame Luncheon, and pulled for a purpose at Plane Pull. Canvas Credit Union was recently the Presenting Sponsor at our Annual State Flag Football, giving out medals and cheering on athletes.
