2025 Spring Season: A Super-Powered Season to Remember

2025 Spring Season: A Super-Powered Season to Remember

The 2025 Spring Season has officially come to a close, and what a season it was!

We kicked off our State Competitions on May 31 with State Gymnastics at Incline Gymnastics, where 57 athletes and 1 Unified partner competed across all areas. It was a fantastic day of flips, balance, and strength. A huge thank you to Incline Gymnastics for hosting, and to their incredible gymnasts who volunteered throughout the day. We are so grateful for your support and helping making it a fantastic day!

Next, we took the action to the Western Slope for the 2025 State Summer Games presented by Spectrum, hosted by Colorado Mesa University from June 6-8. Although Friday’s Opening Ceremonies had to be rescheduled due to weather (even heroes need to adapt to the elements!), we made up for it with a superhero-themed celebration on Saturday night! It was amazing to see everyone dressed in their super suits, fully embracing the theme and bringing the energy.

During Opening Ceremonies, we recognized Darin Slattery with the first-ever Tim Sharpe Sportsmanship Award. Tim was a huge part of Special Olympics Colorado and served as the co-chair of our board. He sadly passed away last year and is greatly missed, so in his honor, we created the Tim Sharpe Sportsmanship award. It was an honor to present this award to Darin, who exemplifies everything SOCO and Tim stand for- teamwork, friendship, hard work and, of course, sportsmanship.

The weekend was packed with unforgettable moments. Our State Summer Games mascot, Lizzie the Lizard made her rounds to all four sports venues, spreading cheer and posing for pictures. She even went through all 10 Healthy Athletes screenings! From Olympic Town to the Victory Dance, there was no shortage of fun and memories made that will last a lifetime.

With 775 athletes and Unified partners, 300+ coaches, and more than 300 volunteers, it was a weekend full of joy, inclusion, and fierce competition. Thank you to everyone who helped make the State Summer Games an event to remember!

We closed out the spring season on a high note with the State Topgolf competition on Wednesday, June 11 at Topgolf Centennial. It was only our second year hosting this event, and the growth was incredible. Nearly 300 athletes and Unified partners participated, alongside 250 coaches. A huge jump from just 50 participants last year, and the competition was better than ever.

As we wrap up an unforgettable spring season, we’re already looking forward to what’s next. Bring on the summer season!

Thank you to our 2025 State Summer Games sponsors!
