December 2023 Change Makers
Craig Goodemote
Athlete of the Month
Craig has been a Special Olympics Colorado athlete for about 20 years. Throughout the years, he has competed in basketball, swimming, softball and bowling. Of them all, swimming is his favorite sport and he is the team captain for Loveland Swimming. In 2022, Craig had the opportunity to compete at the 2022 USA Games in Orlando, Florida as part of Team Colorado swimming. At USA Games, he got 4th place in 200-yard Freestyle and 4th place in 100-yard Individual Medley.
In addition to competing, Craig is a Northeast Regional Fitness Captain. He also recently attended the Weld County Sheriff’s Office Inaugural Detentions Academy for Unified Special Olympics Colorado athletes.
Craig’s coach, Diane said that he always comes to practice “fired up” with a smile on his face. “He leads exercises at all practices. He is an amazing leader and role model,” said Diane. “He will assist the coaches and helps athletes at practices and meets. He has taken time from his workout to help a younger athlete on the team with strokes and turns. Craig has a positive attitude, no matter what the task.”
Congratulations on being recognized as the December Athlete of the Month, Craig!
