FAQ's
Are day of registrations accepted for the 5K?
Yes, absolutely! The day of registration fee is $45.
Are dogs/strollers allowed in the 5K?
Yes! For your safety, please line up towards the back of the line. Dogs must be friendly and on a leash at all times.
For the 5K, are there heats or a "shotgun" start?
We will have a “shotgun” start. Fast runners line up towards the front of the line!
How do I plunge into an open body of water?
You can walk or run from the beach into the water. NO DIVING!
Our friends from the Fire Department Rescue team establish the perimeter and the depth for the plunge (usually chest or shoulder deep). They ensure that the ground in the water is even and that there are no drop-offs before establishing the perimeter.
Plunge teams (usually 6-9 at a time) will set their belongings down on one of the tables near the water. After you plunge, gather your items and head to the heated changing tents or indoor facilities.
How do I fundraise to reach my minimum?
After you register, you’ll receive an automated email from Classy that says “Claim Your Fundraising Page”. Click on the link to claim and begin using your personal fundraising link. Share your personalized link emails with a personal note to family and friends on social media. The fundraising minimum for adults to plunge is $80 and $50 for Special Olympics Colorado athletes and students.
If I'm planning on plunging after the 5K, can I still do the 5K?
Yes absolutely! Make sure to let your Team Captain know that you are running in the 5K so that you both can decide on a time and location to meet before plunging.
Where do I change after my plunge?
We will have multiple changing tents that are heated. Some plunge locations have facilities such as heated restrooms that can be used too.
Where do I go to pick up my 5K bib?
Once you check in, we will provide you with your bib.
What do I wear to plunge?
We’ve seen plungers wear fun costumes, team t-shirts or bathing suits. NO DIVING SUITS! Shoes are required if you are plunging into an open body of water. Shoes are not allowed in pool plunges as they can tear the pool.
What happens if I don't reach my fundraising minimum to plunge?
If you’re plunging with a team, check with your Team Captain for support. If you’re plunging individually, you do need to reach your minimum in order to participate.
What should I bring if I'm plunging?
A towel, change of clothes and dry shoes to wear for the rest of the day. Bring your ID if you are planning to use your complimentary beer or drink ticket at the After Splash Bash.
What time should I arrive for the 5K?
Aim to arrive and check in 30-45 minutes before the race starts.
