Wow, what a whirlwind of a weekend at State Summer Games presented by Delta Dental! Between the high-fives, cheers, and endless smiles, we truly had a blast. Parking Information?

Golf competition will park at the Aurora Hills Golf Course Parking.

Tennis competition will park at the Cadet Fieldhouse Parking just off Fieldhouse Drive.

Bocce, Cycling and Softball parking on Saturday will be located between the softball fields and the Bocce competition venue.

Softball parking on Sunday will be at Leon Young Sport Complex located off of Alvarado Ave.

What is the typical weather in Colorado Springs in August?

Typically, the weather in August in Colorado Springs will be warm with plenty of sunshine, however, checking the forecast will be the best way to assure you are prepared is to check the weather forecast. Click HERE to view the weather forecast.

What should I pack/bring?

Will I need to bring any money?

Money would be needed for food available from concession stands and food trucks.  We will also be selling Special Olympics souvenirs. Money would also be needed for anything off campus.

Where will awards be given?

Awards will be given at each venue after the competitions have been concluded.

Lodging and Food

Are meals provided? When and where will they be located? Can you accommodate my dietary needs?

Meals will not be provided.  Various snacks will be provided for competitors at Hospitality Stations at each venue.

Note: We will do our best to have Gluten Free and Vegetarian options at all snacks but are unable to make guarantees. Should you have dietary restrictions, we would recommend bringing any specific dietary needs or stopping at the grocery store on the way to the competition.

Where are the nearest grocery stores?
Is alcohol allowed at the competition? Can I smoke at the venue?

No alcohol is allowed during the competition. There is no smoking allowed including in outdoor venues. This includes cigarettes, marijuana, and vaping.

“State Summer Classic Accessibility Guide”

Are there low sensory spaces?

There will be low sensory located near Olympic Town on Saturday and Softball on Sunday.  Sensory areas will be marked by signage and will include sound reducing headphones, wiggle seats, weighted blankets and fidgets.

Volunteering

Where is “Volunteer Check-In” and what should I expect as a volunteer?

All golf volunteers will report to the tent near the first tee box. Look for the volunteer check in signs.

All tennis volunteers will report to the tennis venue to locate the volunteer check in signs.  Volunteers for Bocce, Cycling and Softball will report to volunteer tent located between Softball and Bocce.

Once at your assigned venue, volunteers will receive their volunteer orientation, provided with a safety debriefing, and assigned a volunteer role.

Emergencies and Medical

Where can I find Medical?

First Aid/Medical will be available at all competition venues. Please locate the venue director at each venue if in need of medical.  They will be rotating from venue to venue.  Any attendee in need of assistance is welcome to reach out to a staff member or volunteer who will be wearing identifiable nametags and shirts.

UCHealth Memorial North is the closest hospital.

What do I do in the event of an emergency?

If there is an emergency, three loud horns will sound. Please STOP, LOOK and LISTEN for Instruction from staff.

Law enforcement and medical will be on-site and ready to support as will SOCO staff.

Emergency procedures will also be posted around the venues.

Non-Competition Events, Healthy Athletes, and Other FAQs

What is there to do during the weekend?
  • O-Town will be available on Saturday and Sunday
  • Healthy Athletes (Special Smiles) will take place on Saturday and Sunday
  • Competition will run all weekend long in various sports.

When are the opening ceremonies and what can I expect?

Golf Opening Ceremonies will take place at the First Tee Box

The main Opening Ceremonies will take place near the Bocce courts at 8:00 AM on Saturday.  There will be a brief Opening Ceremonies at Tennis at 8:00 AM.  Opening Ceremonies on Sunday will begin at 8:15 AM at Leon Young Sport Complex.

Where are the souvenirs going to be located?

Aurora Souvenirs will be at the Awards area.

Souvenirs will be located near the Bocce courts on Saturday under the Star Tent.  Sunday, souvenirs will be sold near the check-in area.

Where can I go to get water or cool off?

We will have hydration stations available at each venue. They will include water, education on proper hydration and cooling towels (while supplies last). Outdoor stations will be marked with a feather banner.

What is “Healthy Athletes”, where is it going to be, and what should I expect?

What: The Healthy Athletes screenings will give athletes, Unified partners and coaches the opportunity to receive free health screenings, health education and referrals in a fun and welcoming environment.

Screenings Offered: Special Smiles

When: Saturday, August 19th 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Where: Air Force Academy – Softball/Bocce and Tennis (2 locations, one venue!)

When: Sunday, August 20th 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Where: Near Souvenirs

What to Expect from the Atmosphere: Athlete, UPs and Coaches will check in at the Special Smiles check in table. They will then head into the screening area where their mouth will be  looked in and an assessment will be made. If a referral is needed for dental care, the dentist will let you know. From there you have the option to get a fluoride treatment to protect your teeth. The screening will end with an education table on brushing your teeth and receiving a goodie bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.

Expected Time At Screening:

  • Special Smiles= 10-15 minutes, low touch (looking in mouth)

The Vaccine Bus

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) will be at State Summer Classic on Sunday, August 20th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM to offer COVID-19 vaccines. They will be located in the parking lot near the softball fields and the food truck. Other vaccines may be available, just stop by and ask.

Where do I go with questions while at 2023 State Summer Classic?

Information booths will be available at each venue  (marked by a feather banner) and the soccer venue (marked by a feather banner).  These tables will be located near hospitality tables.

Is there a lost and found?

Any lost and found items will be placed at the information booths marked with a feather banner or tablecloth.
