Jack Holm: State Winter Games 2025

Jack Holm: State Winter Games 2025

By Jack Holm, Special Olympics Colorado Athlete & Marketing Intern

My name is Jack Holm and I am a Special Olympics Colorado athlete. I have been competing with Special Olympics Colorado for a long time. This winter, I competed in skiing with Special Olympics Colorado, but I have been skiing since I was 4 years old. To me, skiing is about having fun and winning medals with other athletes.

When I first started skiing, it was under the tutelage of Tommy Moore, who was my first ski coach. Since then, I have had many different coaches, including Beth Fox with Spectrum Ski Race Camp, which I have done since I was 16 years old.

Now, I compete with the Cherry Creek team, who I competed with at the State Winter Games a couple of weeks ago. At the State Winter Games, I won both silver and bronze medals. Even though I have many medals from my time with Special Olympics Colorado, it was still exciting to win gold and bronze. I’ve been skiing for so long that it feels natural to me and makes it an easy feat at competition. It still feels good winning a gold medal, just as it did when I was younger. For example, when I was younger, I competed in a NASTAR ski race at Winter Park and won gold, as well as with the STARS program in Steamboat. I even made the newspaper in Steamboat, which was unexpected but really cool.

But regardless of how many medals I win, it’s important to me to have fun and be included. It’s just a perk to win medals, but the real victory is inclusion and having a great time at State Winter Games.

Even though the State Winter Games has wrapped up, there’s still next year! I’m looking forward to being involved again and shredding the gnar.

Jack Holm is a Denver native and Special Olympics Colorado Athlete. Jack’s favorite sports are skiing, basketball, softball and flag football.
