- Compensation: The Western Region Unified Schools Coordinator position is a salaried full-time position with an annual salary of $55,000. A bonus may be available dependent on organizational performance. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Position Summary:
This position will lead the implementation of Unified Sports® Programs and Social Inclusion Initiatives within all Western Region Schools, pre-school through college. The position will also spearhead outreach to new schools, Youth Leadership Training and activities within the Western Region, as well as assist the Western Regional Manager with athlete transition strategies.
Reports to: Senior Director of Unified Champion Schools
Position Responsibilities:
• Meet annual goals tied to the recruitment and development of partnerships with schools to implement UCS programs and social inclusion activities throughout the Western region.
• Conduct meetings and develop communication materials as needed to assure clear and open communication between all school programs.
• Serve as initial point of contact between schools and Special Olympics Colorado Western Regional Manager.
• Provide assistance to schools Unified Sports programs, Young Athletes, Red Shirt Rookies, Youth Leadership, Healthy LEAP, SO College programs, and transition services as needed to ensure the successful delivery of services to the athletes, families and volunteers of that district.
• Ability to identify, train, and support Unified School “champions”.
• Work with Volunteer and Coach Development Manager to implement Coaches Education Certification Program within all schools Unified Sports programs.
• Develop program guides and resources for educators and Unified Schools programs.
• Serve as a resource to ensure all Unified Schools programs comply with all Special Olympics Colorado policies, procedures, and rules. Work within Unified Schools to ensure that interested volunteers are assigned to roles within each Unified Sports program.
• Represent Special Olympics Colorado to the public by speaking to service clubs and other community groups when needed.
• Train school personnel in the development and implementation of Unified Schools programs.
• Collaborate with the Western Regional Manager to implement Western Regional Unified School events.
• Maintain oversight of UCS budget related to Western Region.
• Research and develop revenue streams to support Unified Schools initiatives within the Western Region
Position Requirements
• Demonstrate commitment to the mission, vision and values of Special Olympics Colorado
• Education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in related field
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to speak Spanish and/or American Sign Language is preferred
• Demonstrated Program Development and implementation experience
• Demonstrated organization and planning skills
• Demonstrate clear knowledge of Unified Sports, Youth Sports and Social Inclusion
• Demonstrate knowledge of State Educational Goals and objectives, as well as Educational Systems and school districts
• Demonstrate knowledge of Training for Coaches and Educators
• Strong self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• Support other departments contributing to team spirit and sharing of responsibilities
• Sense of humor
• Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed
• Ability to travel independently throughout the state
• Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs
• Ability to operate a computer for extended periods
• Strong preference for applicant to reside (or plan to reside) in the Grand Junction area.
