Special Olympics Colorado to Host Virtual Summer Games

Annual Summer Games is moving online June 21st to the 26th

Denver, CO – June 10, 2020 – Special Olympics Colorado, Colorado’s premiere sports organization for individuals with intellectual disabilities, is proud to announce Virtual Summer Games presented by Spectrum. The Games will commence on Sunday, June 21st with Opening Ceremonies and competition will run from Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26th.

For the past six years, Summer Games has been held on the campus of Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. 2020 looks a little different as COVID-19 has forced Special Olympics Colorado to move one of their largest competitions to the digital universe.

The week of virtual festivities will commence with an opening ceremony hosted on Special Olympics Colorado’s Facebook page. A different sport will be featured daily with competitions taking place from 9AM-4PM. Gymnastics, powerlifting, athletics (track & field), swimming and soccer will all be highlighted. Athletes, families and community members can train, access challenges and submit results online.

Other virtual summer games events will include daily health and wellness programming, an athlete talent show (June 24th), family reception (June 25th), Victory Dance (June 26th), Champion Highlight Show sponsored by Thrivent and more. Details and registration information can be found online. Additionally, special guests like Denver Bronco Dalton Risner will be introducing the daily competitions.
