Maya Thompson

Special Olympics Colorado
Youth Representative

Maya Thompson is a Senior at Mead High School and upon graduating, plans to pursue a major in Occupational Therapy. She became involved with Special Olympics Colorado as a Unified partner during her Freshman year, participating in Track, Basketball, Football, and Bowling. A year later, she joined Colorado’s Youth Activation Committee and has been a part of it ever since. She is particularly excited to help her school’s Unified Club regain the momentum it lost to COVID. Last year, Maya honored the founding principles of Special Olympics by basing her Junior AP research paper on why inclusion is important and should be widely implemented. This year, she is the proud recipient of a $1,000 Special Olympics grant, which she will use to host monthly events that foster inclusion in her community by allowing people with and without disabilities to come together, have fun and build new and lasting friendships.
