About John Shukie
John Shukie is considered a national expert on NCAA policy and assists institutions across the country with navigating complex NCAA processes. John founded Forward Progress in 2013 after serving as Director of Academic and Membership Affairs (AMA) at the NCAA national office, where he oversaw various academic and compliance-related programs. Prior to his time in AMA, John served as an investigator within the NCAA enforcement department.
John received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was an editor for the Legal Forum Journal. He also received his M.S. in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and his Bachelors degree from Bowdoin College. John is actively involved in his community, serving on the Douglas County Special Education Advisory Committee. He lives in Castle Rock with his wife, Maricela and three daughters: Marisol, Sofia and Nadia.

About Patrick Cowan
Patrick Cowan joined US Bank in 2015 as a Senior Vice President and Division Manager with more than fifteen years of commercial banking experience. He now serves US Bank as the Chief Banking Officer for Ascent Private Capital Management. In addition to his service to Special Olympics Colorado on the Board of Directors, he was also instrumental in the creation of Special Olympics Colorado’s Young Professionals Board.
Patrick is an alum of the University of South Florida College of Business Administration, as well as the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also serves as a board member for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. He lives with his wife Jamie and their two children.
About Mandy Williams
Mandy Williams, a Colorado native, is the Executive Director of Spectrum, a leading Human Services agency offering a wide range of programs to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ms. Williams has led the Spectrum organization for 10 years with a mission of providing the greatest quality of life with the highest level of independence to everyone in services. Mandy’s personal success is founded on building family relationships that are based on trust, love, and respect. Her passion for working with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities has spanned a lifetime. In 2017, Ms. Williams joined the Board of Special Olympics and continues to play in various unified sports throughout the year.

About Mackenzie Beauvais-Nikl
Mackenzie Beauvais-Nikl has been a Special Olympics Colorado Athlete for the past twelve years and competes in soccer, basketball, snowboarding, track, tennis, softball, and volleyball. She also was a member of the Colorado Rapids Unified Team for three years and was chosen to represent Colorado on the Special Olympics USA All-Star Basketball Team in Louisiana in 2014. Not only is Mackenzie an incredible athlete, she is a Special Olympics Colorado Board Member, a member of our Athlete Leadership Program, and a Fitness Captain.
In 2019, Mackenzie and Unified Partner Enzo Ewari were selected to represent Colorado at the Special Olympics World Games Global Youth Leadership Summit in Abu Dhabi. They learned about how we can transform our schools, communities, and countries into places of inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.

About Kris Staaf
As Safeway’s Senior Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations, Kris manages legislative affairs, media relations, liquor licensing, donations, charitable giving, and fundraising for the Denver Division’s five state operating area. Kris has worked for Safeway since 2006 and during this time has directed consumer legislation, served as the company’s media spokesperson and managed fundraising and donations.
Kris is the board chair of the Colorado Retail Council and holds Board of Director positions with Special Olympics Colorado and the Wyoming Retail Association. She has been honored with the Denver Business Journal’s 40 under 40 Award, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Colorado Gold Pick awards, National PRSA Silver Anvil Award, Safeway’s Outstanding Achievement Award, South Metro Denver Chamber – Inspirational Female Leader Award and Progressive Grocer’s Top Women in Grocery Award.

Laurin Quiat’s prominence as a litigator in the areas of products liability, construction, commercial and family law reflects an impressive record of achievement. The leader of BakerHostetler’s nationwide construction team and managing partner of the firm’s Denver office, Laurin has tried more than 100 cases to verdict. His skill in the courtroom even created legal precedent, and he has been ranked as a Colorado “Super Lawyer” for the past six years.

Davinia Lyon is a Certified Public Accountant with over 25 years of experience providing tax services. She is currently a tax partner at TaxOps, specializing in corporate and international tax, including income tax provisions, business strategy tax impact analysis, transfer pricing, foreign compliance and reporting, M&A transactions, and entity restructuring. Prior to TaxOps she was a Senior Director of Global Tax Accounting and Transfer Pricing at Jacobs Inc, Vice President of Tax at CH2M Hill Inc, and with Ernst & Young, LLP where she specialized in large corporate tax compliance. Davinia holds Accounting and Business Administration degrees from Dordt College and a Master’s in Taxation from Denver University.

About Dr. Jay Albright
Dr. Jay Albright, MD is the Surgical Director of Sports Medicine at Children’s Hospital Colorado. He was raised in Iowa City, Iowa. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, and his MD at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He specializes in the care of young athletes, from pre-adolescent to professional. Jay takes pride in avoiding surgery in most patients, despite being a surgeon. He is interested in all types of sports, from soccer and basketball to field hockey, volleyball, cheerleading, dance, and more. Jay and his wife Stacy have two children.

Joshua Goldenberg is the Vice President of Payor Contracting at DaVita Kidney Care. He has been with DaVita for nine years, prior to which he worked at a realty capital firm in New York. He has served on the Board of Directors of Riverstone Condominium and Mile High Youth Corps. He is a graduate of Tufts University with a BS in Civil Engineering, and Cornell University’s S.C. About Greg Leonard
Greg Leonard returned to the Mile High City in August, 2015 to become the General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. Leonard will be celebrating his 40 year anniversary with Hyatt in 2020 and it all began in food and beverage.
Greg Leonard is known for his active involvement in and commitment to the local community, including his work on behalf of local charities. He is captain of the Bike MS Colorado Team Stay Fit at Hyatt that grew to more than 200 riders and that raised more than $1 million during the course of fifteen years.
Leonard serves on numerous boards to including Downtown Denver Partnership, Metro Denver Lodging Council, Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association as well as Special Olympics Colorado where he also serves as a coach, and is a proud father of a SOCO athlete.

Melissa Sachs joined Prologis in October 2018 and is the head of Global Corporate Communications. She leads strategic planning and execution for the company’s corporate, external and internal communications.
Melissa holds a Master of Science in Strategic Communication from Columbia University in New York. She has a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The University of Miami, Florida. About Tony Spurlock
Tony Spurlock is Douglas County’s 33rd Sheriff. He was first elected Sheriff in 2015 and re-elected in November 2018. He has worked in law enforcement for 38 years. During his first term he created a multi-departmental partnership to build the Unified Metropolitan Forensic Crime Lab, and a partnership with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office for a POST Academy to accommodate 50+ cadets annually. Spurlock also developed Douglas County’s first financial crime task force collaborating with Castle Rock PD, Lone Tree PD, and the United States Secret Service.
Sheriff Spurlock resides in Douglas County with his wife Stacy. They have four children and are the proud grandparents to three grandchildren.

Mike Deatly is a managing director of Savills Studleys’ Denver office. About Jon Herskovits
Jon Herskovits served as the President of Five Star Chemicals & Supply Inc. until he retired in 2018. He has been a member of the Colorado Knights of Columbus since 2005 and currently serves as the State Secretary. He also is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Colorado Knights of Columbus Charities Fund Inc. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Alexa has been a champion for Special Olympics Colorado for many years, and is especially engaged through events. About Dalton Risner
Far more than just a professional football player, Dalton has always had a passion for helping others and making them smile. Raised in the small town of Wiggins, Colorado, his work on the family farm and involvement in the lives of friends and neighbors, molded Dalton into who he is today. The hard work paid off as Risner committed to Kansas State where he would start in all 50 games during his 5-year career at the Big 12 school, ending his senior year being voted Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year. Dalton is coming off an impressive rookie year with the Denver Broncos, having started all 16 games with the team and earning All-Rookie Team honors from numerous publications. Even as a highly decorated player, Dalton is better known for his work off the field, through Special Olympics, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, Camp Hope, and his own foundation, RisnerUp. Dalton believes life is measured by the joy you bring to others—not your own individual accomplishments.

About Tim Sharpe
Tim Sharpe has competed with Special Olympics Colorado for 35 years in sports including cross country skiing, basketball, soccer, golf, softball, and volleyball. His favorite sports are golf and softball. Tim says that “Special Olympics has impacted my life by helping me with my self-esteem and teaching me to work as a team.” Tim was the Male Athlete of the Year in 2001, and earned a spot as a golfer on Team USA-Colorado for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in North Carolina. He serves as a Fitness Coordinator to promote health and wellness to his fellow athletes, and mentors other athletes serving in that role. In his spare time, he is an avid Broncos fan and serves on the Athlete Input Council.

About Lilie Stoolman
Lilie Stoolman is a recent graduate of Horizon High School and will be attending University of Colorado Boulder. Lilie started a Unified Club in her high school which allowed her school to become the first Unified Champion School in Adams 12. She participated as a Unified Partner in basketball, bowling, and soccer. She also worked with her school’s student government to plan a spirit week based around people with intellectual disabilities while raising money for adaptive P.E. equipment for two feeder schools. Lilie had the opportunity to play as a Unified Partner on the Colorado Rapids Unified team and was also chosen to represent Colorado at the MLS Allstar match in Orlando. She also has received the 2020 Adams County Mayors and Commissioners Youth Award for exceptional contributions to the community, both at the city and county levels. While attending CU Boulder Lilie plans on bringing Unified Sports to campus.

Matthew Doyle has worked for FirstBank since 1998. He is currently a President at the Holding Company level, managing both Loan Review and Valuation Services. Prior to his current position, he worked in the Investment Securities area assisting in the oversight of the bank’s investment portfolio. He was responsible for consumer, commercial and construction lending, underwriting and business development.
After receiving his BS from Miami University in Ohio, Matthew completed graduate school at University of Wisconsin and the University of South Carolina in 2009. About Scott Siegfried
Scott Siegfried received his bachelor’s from the University of Colorado in biology and kinesiology, before taking a gig coaching the cross-country team at his old high school. After returning to his alma mater and working directly with students, Siegfried realized he had inherited his parents’ passion for education. Siegfried went on to earn his master’s degree and his teaching certificate from the University of Colorado Denver and his Ph.D from the University of Denver. When he landed his first student teaching job at Eaglecrest High School in 1995, he kicked off a career in the Cherry Creek School District that would span several decades, multiple schools and various administrative positions at the district level.
